Urban ArtWorks partnered with the City of Burien to launch the Burien Tourism Mural Art Program. Through this initiative, 12 professionally designed murals are coming to Burien’s commercial districts, celebrating local artists, supporting businesses, and shaping public spaces throughout the city. We’re excited to share more about the murals and artists in this series of posts.

Movement in the Sea and in Yoga

The mural connects to the practice of yoga through its focus on marine life movement. Some of the best yoga poses are practices of active rest – like child’s pose – where the practitioner mimics the non-movement of a sea star as it clamps to a pier during low tide.
Movement and stillness become the interconnected practice of yoga. In the same way, the animals and plants of the sea float, propel, and stay still in their efforts to survive and thrive.
