Urban ArtWorks, in partnership with Mary’s Place and Mercy Housing Northwest, is seeking artists for a series of public art commissions at a new affordable housing and family shelter campus in Burien, WA.
We’re building a pool of artists for up to 16 artwork opportunities, including: interior & exterior murals; mounted artwork panels; framed & suspended artwork; other site-specific works We’re also interested in licensing or purchasing existing artwork for select locations.
We welcome submissions from professional and emerging artists throughout the Puget Sound region, with special encouragement for artists who have connections to Burien, community-centered work, affordable housing, Mary’s Place, or Mercy Housing. BIPOC, LGBTQIA+, disabled, and emerging artists are strongly encouraged to apply.

We regularly update our roster of artists and designers who we contract to complete commissioned projects throughout the city. We work with artists who bring a variety of styles, and we encourage those who also have collaboration and facilitation skills to apply. Urban ArtWorks is currently seeking Teaching Artists for K-12 programming. Our Teaching Artists have a wide variety of visual and public arts experience. TAs should have experience helping young people use art as a tool for social change. We seek teachers who reflect the communities we serve, including Black, Indigenous, People of Color, and those who identify as LGBTQ+.
