Urban ArtWorks is partnering with the City of Burien to launch a Mural Arts Program this summer. Through this initiative, 12 professionally designed murals are coming to Burien’s commercial districts celebrating local artists, supporting businesses, and shaping public spaces throughout the city. We’re excited to share more about the murals and artists in a series of posts.

B & E Meats and Seafood continues to serve the northwest with the highest quality meats, the freshest seafood. Since opening, B&E Meats has celebrated more than 68 years in business!

“When presented with the opportunity to work with B&E again, I knew I wanted to stay on-brand to the local business that has served our community since 1958. Having painted a wall at their Des Moines location, I wanted to tie both locations together by maintaining a similar color palette. The concept originally started as an entire cow sectioned into various cuts, similar to a classic butcher shop diagram. However, I added a cubist spin to make it more playful and whimsical.
While drafting on my computer, an accidental copy-and-paste resulted in a heavily cropped, zoomed-in view of just the head. Immediately, I knew this was the right direction for the wall. The flower serves as a break from the various brown tones throughout the piece, while also bringing a softness to a subject that some might otherwise see as morbid. To me, the flower also represents life, quality food, and the beautiful privilege of having access to thoughtfully sourced, high-quality meat products right here in our community.”
