Hey South Park! We’ve been talking about mural art in the neighborhood quite a bit over the last year and today we’re excited to announce the official launch of the South Park Youth Mural Project!

The South Park-based youth leadership program, Youth Entrepreneurs of Seattle (YES), is organizing a youth mural arts training project in partnership with Urban ArtWorks (www.urbanartworks.org), South Park Arts (www.southparkarts.org), Seattle Neighborhood Group, and the Seattle Office of Arts and Culture during summer 2019!

What is it?
Our group will be hiring a teaching artist (hopefully from South Park) to teach 12 local youth (ages 14-18) the fundamentals of designing and painting a mural over 8-weeks. Classes will be on Wednesdays from 5:30-8:30 pm starting on July 10 and the mural will be completed the week of August 26, 2019. We’ve received multi-year funding from Office of Arts and Culture, so there will be 2 more groups of youth working with 2 more local artists to paint 2 more murals in South Park during spring/summer 2020.

What do we need?
South Park Youth ages 14-18 with free time on Wednesday evenings. No art skills are required, but they should be eager to learn about making murals and want to be a positive difference in their community. At completion of the project, youth will receive a $250 stipend for their participation.
