Title: Start With Love
Completed: Summer 2025
The concept began with the circular composition behind the figures that represents water and ripples. The artists explained that the center is a drop (connecting it to Seattle’s rainy nature), which then expands outwards and creates ripples, which represent Dr. King’s legacy and ripple effects across society and history. Then, a weaving path is forged along the wall, with little dots representing the movement, as people protest and come together for a common cause. This path has now transformed into what is now the actual street, “Martin Luther King Jr. Way S.”
The three people currently portrayed are MLK, his wife Coretta Scott King, and Mike Tagala (a Seattle native, activist, and part of the movement at the time– we can send sources of our research if needed). There will be two more people added in the placement holders, but this is the overall idea and finished composition.
