Recently, Urban ArtWorks worked to add a mural to help complete a remodel at the newly-opened Family Intervention and Restorative Services Center, a non-secure 24/7 receiving facility that eliminates the need for detention bookings on the majority of family violence cases.

Here is the announcement from King County:

As of July 1st, 2016, youth presented to detention for family violence now have a detention alternative. Staffed 24 hours a day by Pioneer Human Services, the FIRS Center provides respite until it is safe for youth to return home. The FIRS center is the result of a very successful partnership made up of the King County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office, Superior Court, the Department of Adult and Juvenile Detention, the Department of Judicial Administration, the Department of Public Defense, and the City of Seattle. Formerly known as “Z-hall,” the FIRS Center is a converted and softened detention pod. The center is non-secure and provides up to 7 dorms for youth dealing with family violence issues. Thanks to the hard work of our partners and the contribution of our own system involved youth through Urban Artworks, we have a beautiful mural that softens the appearance of the space.
